Wow!! This is a very powerful image that really gives a sense of lost hope and despair. The eyes, to me, gives hope to the picture and suggests a brighter tomorrow and although they appear to be sad, they suggest that better times are coming. The dirt on the face gives the feeling that this particular person has seen a lot in their time. The lighting is wonderful and it really sets a darker mood to this picture. This image really took my breath away and it reminds me a lot of the Great Depression pictures you see. Excellent job!!

Oops. That is my bad. she looked like a guy to me. Maybe because of how close up the shot is. I don't think the dirt helped me. :P
Still an amazing shot.

its ok, you arent the first person to think that the model is male. though I am beginning to wonder if I really resemble a guy that much

I believe that it is the angle. In this photo the jaw line is not shown. So instead of being able to look at more of the face, people have to presume off of a small portion. The eye lashes do not look of a guys. But I was just guessing.

love the stripe in the mud on this face, like sweat has dripped down or like a tear. Leaves you guessing.

that is a tear, I wanted a grungy feeling to compliment the sadness in the photo, so I used mud

ah interesting. Yes. I thought the eyes looked quite sad, but the close up of the face, the framing, the mud all made it feel very real and rough

yep, that was the effect I was going for, I wanted the eye to be noticed, But I wanted the entire face to convey sadness, despair, and hardship, not just the eye

well congrats. I'd say that was achieved. The hardship bit especially - i just couldn't work out how to say it  well done.
